We know it’s been some time since our last update and excited to share some news. To give a bit of context, at the time of development remember that we made an important change in the design, electronics, and mechanics of the Glassy Zone by incorporating the LED matrix, which caused a delay in development of several months in order to be able to deliver the devices. The change has also forced us to have to procure more financing, which has taken its fair share of time to obtain as well.

In summary:

We received the new prototype on October 3, and were testing in southeast France for 3 weeks, up until October 24.

On October 31 we began the production phase, in this case with EP1 (engineering product 1), where we obtain a prototype ready for production. EP1 finishes on January 9, in less than a month, when we receive the completed production prototype ready for testing, which will last 2 weeks. This prototype is the final prototype. Once we have it tested, we will be able to share another update and show images of the new Glassy Zone!

After that comes EP2 (engineering product 2) and the estimated start date for it is end of January. It is nothing more than an iteration of EP1 where we refine things which we've seen with the first prototype, such as firmware, ergonomics, the LED interface, and so on and so forth. However at the end of the day they are all minor things really. EP2 lasts from 6 to 8 weeks and once finished we will do another 2 weeks of testing. We hope to finish EP2 by mid-March.

Once testing is done, we finally move on to the industrialization phase, where among other things we prepare the paperwork for the manufacturer, purchase parts for the number of units that will be produced (2500 units in first batch), get tooling done and pass the certifications. In the next update we will go into more detail regarding the process and times.

On a positive note, we are close to getting into industrialization and there are no problems when it comes to resources at Glassy.

You have asked about the project's status and we’re excited to share the latest on the Glassy Zone production process. Our team has been hard at work with incorporating your valuable feedback and a lot of things have happened since the last update. Here it goes:

The Good

Product: As you all know, at the request of many backers, we agreed to add a watch function. The initial idea was that the Glassy Zone would be focused on recording data, which we would later show in the app., Thanks to your feedback, we realized that including the time was a necessary function of the device for many reasons. We reworked the design so that we can ultimately offer you the best version of Glassy Zone.

We’re especially excited to unveil the new design to our backers, new design includes a LED matrix that will not only be able to give the time but will provide more information potentially, in future versions of the firmware, without needing to buy a new device. You can see here how we've integrated it.

To show the time we chose a 5 x 17 LED matrix and we had to re-locate the UV ray sensor and the button, as you can see on the images. You can also see some examples of the information that will be shown, not just the time but also battery charge level, UV rays, type of activity, etcetera.

Team: We've been looking for a senior technical member to really push Glassy Zone to where it needs to be and I’m proud to say that we’ve found him! We just added our CTO with a profile with more than 20 years experience in new technology development in the USA, Germany, China, and Spain, among other countries, his name isEsteban Briones. It's a real luxury to have him on the team and, believe me, it's something that will be noticed in both the apps and the Glassy Zone.

The Bad

Adding the time to the Glassy Zone has meant changing the 3D design, the mechanics, and the electronics. In other words, EVERYTHING. Our estimated times (delivery between September and November) will be delayed. As we move on to the production phase, we'll  be able to give a more precise estimate. We will be sending another newsletter by the end of July, with more detailed information. The timeline you could see on Indiegogo did not include this large change in the mechanics and electronics.

After exceeding our goal, we are now focusing on making Glassy Zone even a better product!

In the beginning, Glassy Zone was intended to be used only in surfing, until future versions would allow it to surpass those limits.

But now, we have decided to speed up the process! By adapting the software, we will make it possible for you to take Glassy Zone with you, chasing waves and doing whatever you want: windsurf, SUP, bodyboard, ...

Aren't those great news? While you will be having the time of your life in the water, Glassy Zone will be tracking  your performance and conditions allowing you to use the info to improve yourself.
